Consistent equivalence principle tests with fast radio bursts

چکیده

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are astrophysical transients of still debated origin. So far several hundred events have been detected, mostly at extragalactic distances, and this number is expected to grow significantly over the next years. The signals from burst experience dispersion as they travel through free electrons along line-of-sight characterised by measure (DM) pulse. In addition, each photon also experiences a gravitational Shapiro time delay while travelling potentials generated large-scale structure. If equivalence principle (EP) holds, same for photons all frequencies. case EP broken, one would expect an additional occur which could be either positive or negative individual sources. Here we suggest use angular statistics DM fluctuations put constraints on parametrized post-Newtonian parameter $\gamma$. Previous studies suffer problem that potential responsible diverges in cosmological setting, our approach avoids. We carry out forecast population FRBs observable within years show any significant detection power spectrum will place few orders magnitude more stringent than current limits.

Testing Einstein's Equivalence Principle With Fast Radio Bursts.

The accuracy of Einstein's equivalence principle (EEP) can be tested with the observed time delays between correlated particles or photons that are emitted from astronomical sources. Assuming as a lower limit that the time delays are caused mainly by the gravitational potential of the Milky Way, we prove that fast radio bursts (FRBs) of cosmological origin can be used to constrain the EEP with ...

Equivalence Principle parity violation tests

Gravitation is parity symmetric or antisymmetric. Mass distribution parity divergence varies from χ = 0 (achiral) to χ = 1 (perfect). A parity Eötvös experiment contrasts chemically and macroscopically identical enantiomorphic space groups P3121 and P3221 α-quartz single crystal test masses. A parity calorimetry experiment contrasts P3121 and P3221 benzil single crystals’ enthalpies of fusion. ...

On Associating Fast Radio Bursts with Afterglows

A radio source that faded over 6 days, with a redshift z ≈ 0.5 host, has been identified by Keane et al. (2016) as the transient afterglow to a Fast Radio Burst (FRB 150418). We report followup radio and optical observations of the afterglow candidate, and find a source that is consistent with an active galactic nucleus (AGN). If the afterglow-candidate is nonetheless a prototypical FRB aftergl...

On Testing the Equivalence Principle with Extragalactic Bursts

An interesting test of Einstein’s equivalence principle (EEP) relies on the observed lag in arrival times of photons emitted from extragalactic transient sources. Attributing the lag between photons of different energies to the gravitational potential of the Milky Way (MW), several authors derive new constraints on deviations from EEP. It is shown here that potential fluctuations from the large...

Physical Constraints on Fast Radio Bursts

Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are isolated, ms radio pulses with dispersion measure (DM) of order 10 pc cm. Galactic candidates for the DM of high latitude bursts detected at GHz frequencies are easily dismissed. DM from bursts emitted in stellar coronas are limited by free-free absorption and those from HII regions are bounded by the nondetection of associated free-free emission at radio wavelength...
